More about me...

- Background -
I was born and raised in South Africa, in a sleepy coastal town in the Eastern Cape. After completing high school in Grahamstown, I attended Rhodes University to pursue my passion for the social sciences.

After taking a break from my studies to teach English in South Korea, I returned home and met my husband. While starting a family has been very fulfilling on a personal level, I am now working diligently on my career as a professional teacher. I returned to Korea to teach, studying after-hours to get my certification. I became the 1st grade teacher at an international school in Myanmar, and have since made my way to Japan. I am currently the 3rd grade homeroom teacher, and having a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

- Future Plans -
I am currently working on completing my Masters in Education by summer 2025. I hope to continue my professional development into a more specialized subject area, such as English Literature. I may also pursue administration and leadership positions. I am also in the process of gaining IB PYP experience.

- Hobbies and Interests -
I am interested in anything creative! Crafts, painting, drawing, writing, baking, crochet and knitting, playing musical instruments - anything creative that I can do with my hands excites me! I'm pretty good with graphic design programs like Photoshop CS and Canva, and frequently put my skills to use making flyers, posters, worksheets and art for my classroom.

I'm an avid gamer (or used to be before I became a very busy mom!) and started learning to code Python with the hopes of one day creating my own video game or app, especially one that can be used in the classroom! I currently run a coding club and an educational video games club at my school.

I enjoy quiet, solitary activities that allow me to recharge my batteries, especially since teaching is such an extroverted activity. I love hiking, yoga, working out alone at the gym, or curling up on the sofa with a good book. My #1 priority for the next while is to learn Japanese!
